lil bow wow
When I was walking to work yesterday, there was a guy walking his dog coming towards me. From a distance and in the dark, I thought it was a cat. The dog was roughly the size of my shoe.
As it got closer, I could see that it was a very young puppy. As is my wont, I knelt down a bit to let it smell the back of my hand.
When I did that, even from several meters away, it went into some sort of aggressive stance. Front legs slightly splayed, head cocked slightly.... the owner was reeling in the leash too. I thought it was strange, but whatever.
When the dog got close enough to sniff my hand, it bit me!
Or rather, it tried to. You see, the mouth on this thing wasn't quite big enough to admit the side of my little finger, which is where it tried to bite me. So it bounced off and went into the little posture again.
The owner then came up and said "Be nice!" and gave it a wallop that knocked it sideways. From there it semi-cowered and I could see a lot of the whites of its' eyes.
Too bad that such a young dog is smacked like that. I bet it'll have problems later with violence.

Poor dog.
I had a little cockapoo, the sweetest little thing named Mabel, and she would occasionally growl and act threateningly...and we would just laugh. She always looked so upset that we weren't scared of her, but the thing is, she was tiny. Even her growls were cute!
This thing didn't growl, just struck the pose and then tried to bite when I was close enough.
It was cute in the sense that this thing probably couldn't bite through a paper bag, but I wonder if it's getting the kind of gentle play at home that it needs, rather that just being yelled at and smacked. :P
